July 19 Summer timeSo I have been at home for about a month now. My father is cancer free, which is great. Now I am just preparing to move to Xinjiang. I've started packing and it is going to be to hard to pack for a year or two with only 100 lbs of stuff. Oh well. I am also waiting for Anukul to arrive! It has been nearly two months since I have seen him and I cannot wait! Here is the most recent picture from this summer. An old friend named Amy and myself at the local bar. Enjoy. March 23 It has been a long time.I have not written for a long time on here, for nearly a year. Though writing right now does not mean that I will write everyday. Today is a sad day. A little boy from my hometown that I watched grow up died today. He was only six years old.
Anyways, thats all for now. I should shower and go to bed. I will read for a while though. I am currently reading "The Twentieth Wife" by Indu Sundaresan.
This is me today. February 20 Sorry I haven't been writing much lately..i've been super busy. But here are some pictures from last Monday night when I cooked with some friends and then again Friday night when I hung out with some other friends...

Blue music, blue sky, blue eye, So sad, so blue This hue holds my heart Holds it true. 我好想中国。。

February 06 Auto-biography..What makes one person's life so important that others would want to read their story? Well in the case of my class "Chinese Women's Autobiography," we are reading them to draw an image of the modern Chinese woman. Part of the class is to write an autobiography. It has to be 10 pages. I have been thinking a lot about what I would like to write. I think I’m going to write about my summer in China 中国. Not the whole summer only from when the students from Gettysburg left until my fall semester started. Today while I was sitting in a really boring lecture for a Chinese language professor candidate I wrote a little....
"My music was my escape, my world, my way to separate myself from the masses. One song by Simple Kid often found its way to the top of my play list, not because it had some profound message that would change my life, it simply at that moment in time rang true. While I was walking along the crowed streets I would often sing along, ‘stroll'n along with nowhere to go, I've got a little pot belly and it's starting to show. nobody phones when you're alone-there's not a goddamn thing to do.' What was my point? Where was I going? Who even cared? Everyday no plans, only an enormous unforgiving city and me, a foreigner, trying to create a nitch so that all my efforts of integration wouldn't be in vain. " Perhaps it is lame, but I don't know. I suppose it could be developed into something good. But who really wants to read it? My life isn't that exciting. Moving along in a dream state most of the time...

"I feel like i'm staring at the sun." February 04 Scratches...What do we do in our sleep? Here lately it seems I have been scratching the hell out of my own body. I mean it has to be me because no one else lives in my room. Every morning I wake up and there is a new scratch. Thursday morning I woke up and there were two. These weren't the kind that you only notice when you see them in the mirror, these are the kind that something hurts and when you look there is a big o'scratch. These new ones are on my tummy/chest, so it is quite painful to wear a bra. I inspected my nails and there were no jagged edges to be found from broken nails. How can a person leave these types of scratches on themselves during the night?
Possible theories from friends include:
-Tags on my sheets.
-Demonic forces pawing at me during the night(Suggested after watching "The Exorcism of Emily Rose")
-Pieces of love left over from all the hot sex I've been having in my dreams. (interesting but probably not).
-Itchy dry skin
Though I would like to think that it was the Hot sex one, the more likely scenario is the itchy dry skin. The count of different ones is now up to over a dozen.
Theories are welcomed and appreciated!-
I am a sad story, it is Friday night and the most exciting thing I did was eat at Ping's-well I did get treated....
Anywho tomorrow should be more exciting, I'm going to the movies in the afternoon with my chinese professor and then attending the Snowball which is Gettysburg spring formal.
While checking out what kind of smiley faces msn spaces offer I came across this:
Off to bed -晚安 February 01 Should be unlike any other...?The pictures that I promised last week-it seems that last month I had downloaded the max amount of pictures that I was allowed. These pictures were all taken before I got my hair cut. So I will put of post hair cut pictures later.
It's 6a.m. and I'm alone.
Did you know,? could you tell,? you were the only one,- that I ever loved--now everything's so wrong.
You're my favorite mistake. January 27 Seriously? So suddenly it is Thursday night 2:36a.m...where does all of my time go? It seems as though the only thing that keeps me going these days in coffee or pure adrenaline. Seem to be full of that these days. I am still having some insomnia. But now the time that I do sleep is punctuated by dreams that I must say I am not unhappy about having. I'm not willing to go into to much detail about them; however, a friend and I think we have figured out this phenomenon. I have currently stopped taking the Pill. Sometimes the pill makes a girl's sex drive plummet. However now that I am off it perhaps my boosted drive is manifesting itself in my dreams. What do dreams exactly mean? Why do we have them? You would think that someone had figured it all out by now.
Random sayings that tickle my fancy: Nadia: Wearing sweatpants over jeans is like wearing leathertrousers in the jungle. Amy: I need to work on my mating call it needs to be perfect Matea: It’s not that kind of Ugly-you know that could go either way. Like-so maybe you should have a new haircut. Its like-so maybe you should have a plastic surgery.
Finally saw a wanted advertisement on That’s Beijing.com that said: “Need Chopstick for my Hotpot!” ----nice pickup line, perhaps I will use it myself. Well on second though-how about NO. ---------Check it out for yourself though; there is a picture of her too… http://www.thatsbj.com/index.php?a=2&b=51925 I also found an interesting article today online entitled: “Sex, Please, We’re Young and Chinese.” http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2006-01/19/content_513764.htm Enjoy…. -for now i need to start to pack my bag for XinJiang. I"m leaving thursday at 8:40am. Yikes that is early! Anywho i have included some basic information on XinJiang for your viewing pleasure.....
Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region covers over 1,600,000 square kilometers (617,763 square miles), one-sixth of China's total territory, making it China's largest province. Xinjiang borders Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. With a population of over 19 million, Xinjiang is home to 47 ethnic groups including the Uygur, the major ethnic group in Xinjiang.
Xinjiang has a long history. The area was called Xiyu in ancient China which means "West Region". It was plundered by the Huns before the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). During the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - 24 AD), Xinjiang was treated as an integral part of the nation's territory. Since then, Xinjiang was governed by all successive dynasties.
Superlatives are often used when describing Xinjiang: It is the most arid province; also contains the hottest and the coldest places; the longest inland river, the Tarim; the lowest marsh, the Aydingkol Lake (Moonlight Lake) in the Turpan Basin; the largest inland lake and the largest desert. In Xinjiang tourists can visit the world-famous Yadan Spectacle in Korla, stone forests, enjoy the mystery of the desert with its spectacular sand mountains. The ancient Silk Road brought Xinjiang a mix of eastern and western cultures which left behind stunning relics. Today, those ancient cities, caves, temples and tombs attract countless tourists from home and abroad. While you are visiting Xinjiang, it is important to be aware of the time zone being used. Although officially run on Beijing time, Xinjiang people also use there own system. If Beijing time is used it means that the sun doesn't raise until 9am and it is still light at midnight in the summer months. When making travel arrangements, be sure which time zone or system is being used or you could get caught out.

-this is the comments page http://english.people.com.cn/other/book/guestbook.php?book_id=175406 July 24 Yen on the Wall and DestructionRight now i'm soo tired. No sleep last night since i was partying but I'm going to make the effort because I love you all so much. So the great wall party turned out to be buckets of fun. I was a little worried at first because it was raining all day, but then i thought..ehi it will be more fun if everything is wet. Anywho so we go to catch the bus, which u had to give them your ticket and they gave you a wristband. (Jess and I are now having a competition to see who can keep theirs on longer, I know we are so fifth grade). So we get to our bus and we might have been in France but i'm not sure, because there were only us and two Chinese people on the bus- the rest were French people who all knew each other. So they all start drinking heavily and by the end of our supposed to be three but turned out to be four hour bus ride to the wall, they are dancing and singing (some american songs i might add, my fav. was when they sang "stand by you"). I am now proud to say that Jess and I are both fluent in French ..right. So we get there and we are chil'n. I must say it was great. They had big projections of weird videos on large screens on either side of the DJ station. U could also walk around a fair amount of the wall. Up on the wall in one of the towers there was another DJ station that kept playing this song that said, "no one has the right to touch you in your bikini area." it was so random but i loved it. They had strob lights and black lights attached to the wall- it was great. I got some great pictures, or Jess took some great pictures so hopefully when she has time she will post them for your viewing pleasure. I think my favorite part was seeing this Chinese woman dancing like crazy with this fantastic femmullet. I mean it was beautiful..solitary tear... I also saw this man dancing in a mask-strikingly similar to the one worn in Texas Chainsaw Massacure. Anywho the dancing was great. So Clevelands twin, which only means something to Jess-so eat your heart out. The party overall had a very European feel. Almost all the people there were western with the exception of a few Chinese who were either western or really wealthy. I really liked it and if i had the chance i would go back and do it again! Also it rained almost the whole time..! So we caught the first bus home and i was back in Beijing by 6 am this morning. On the bus ride i talked to a really nice guy from Chicago named Alex. I also watched other peoples heads bounce around with their mouths open while they slept. ...ha ha got to love it-would have taken pictures but didn't want to wake anyone up!
Moving on to today. I woke up at 1 in the afternoon and got dressed and headed over to an art gallery opening. It was at Jess's work place (Viking Furniture). The whole neighborhood is kind of being torn down so her boss-Wu Jian who helps support this artists community decides to put an art gallery in his building (the gov't is tearing down the upstairs, not fully finished but some walls are gone and there is plaster and glass all around). So they decide to go with the theme destruction and trash. They just leave all the trash on the upper floors and hang the paintings and draw on the walls and what not throughout the buidling. All the artists were there.(I had previously met most of them at a dinner that Wujian took Jess and I to). Everyone who came got this really well put together catalogue and t-shirt. I will show them to you when i arrive home if you are interested. Straight away after I arrive one of the artists seems to of taken a liking to me because he calls me over and then personally decides to take me through the whole place (even though i have already been through before). He introduces me to all his friends and they were all very interesting. (Good time praticing my chinese speaking). I have lots of pictures of this guy and the art and hopefully i will get them posted soon. So moving on he gives me some doublemint gum-which i was really excited about. Then he decides he wants to invite me to dinner and what not. I couldn't make it so i refuse and he proceeds to tell me he really likes me and then kisses me on the cheek. This is fine but then he properly goes for it and as i'm turning around to tell him something he kisses me on the lips. It was a little crazy. He wants to paint me sometime, a little sketchy but if jess comes i might consider doing it. Anywho, he text messages me after he leaves promising to hang out again some other time. I really have no idea how old this guy is...he had crazy hair with paint in it and torn jeans(torn my style that i like) All in all it was a great day other than the random kiss.
-Also had a wonderful chat on the phone with chuckie and Davey..but for now i'm going to head off to bed...sooo tired...Love you all!
Go to Jess' webpage she has pictures up from the Wall! Her link is on my page! July 22 Crazy T-shirts!So on to the T-shirt idea. Chickie and I want to make all kinds of crazy t-shirts with funny pictures we have taken on them. If anyone has idea's or would like to get in on the fun please post your ideas under this blog entry. here is my first
1. Make a shirt that has all the mini vehicles pictures you can squeeze onto it and then perhaps something like "Asia land of the mini's"
----Much love Kinsey JingJu Lecture and a little XiaoJie action.Today was a great day. I woke up quick, had a lovely breakfast with my Chinese mother and then showered. You would think that Chinese women would be modest and not want to show off their body. However at my house it seems as though less clothes is better,. I can't even count the amount of times I have seen my Chinese mother nude. I mean she has a really nice body. Now i'm not bashful at all(since she took me to get the proper massage, she has seen me completely nude, so i figure ehi no big whop) but it is quite odd. I suppose it just means she is super comfortable around me. Ever since the day I got really homesick she has been telling me everyday that she "hopes i have much happiness and that she loves me." So moving on. Went to pick jess up on my bike from the Subway and biked it out xiaojie style. We looked around in some clothing stores, they always have this really loud music playing outside, as though it is supposed to lure you in. What the...um no if anything it would detour you from going it..their marketing techniques are interesting to say the least.
Anywho moving on, later on in the afternoon we went to a lecture at the college i will be attending in the fall on Beijing Opera. I saw a chinese friend I met the other day, his english name is Miky. He is such a cutie and very nice. We are going to chill out together sometime. He is in charge of selecting a roommate for me this fall so he is going to hook me up..Shenma! The lecture on the opera was very informative and we got to watch the performers put on all their make up. Very heavy stuff that if you walked outside in today heat would literally melt off. So Jess and I took lots of pictures and she is going to post them on here later tonight. Lets all give her a round of applase beuase she is just that cool. After we left there we were riding along on my bike, and yes if you are wondering I ride my bike all the time in this black skirt. It is really flowy so sometimes it just happens to create a situation that might be featured in a porn mag. So,,I'm riding Jess on my rack and holding like 10lbs of crap in my front basket-which requires intense power to handle the handlebars. So that really leaves me no way to control my skirt. As we are cruising past a large group of chinese men my skirt properly goes for it....i mean it flew all the way up and hit my face. needless to say the chinese men all had huge smiles on their faces and we were both laughing like crazy. Whilst discussing the beauty of bike riding, it came to our attention that if you should ever want to ride xiaojie style on my bike here in beijing-it would be business class, however Jess' bike isn't quite as classy as mine and only offers coach. But ehi what can you do? So dropped her off and did a little exploring on my bike. Now i'm home max and relax'n in the aircon.......
Jess what the fuck man i love you : "okly just woundered you hound dog"-in reference to yeah can't disclose that information....:-)
"Fuck it, that'd be so dangerous" -meaning ok lets do it. July 20 Christmas Gifts...So, today is Thursday and i'm waiting to get in the shower. I've been sick lately-which really sucks! You don't want to know what kind of sick and i'm not going to share it. Anywho my mother asked me to think of christmas gifts and golly gee is this hard. The only thing I can come up with right now is Chanel #5 perfume. If any of you guys have any suggestions..please let me know. Whop she is done so i'm off...
Much love..Kinsey~
P.S. my friend Jessica is posting the pictures for me because it won't work at my house so if you could go to her webpage and tell her thank you!
Last couple of days...I haven't written for a couple of days but I have been really busy. Lets see, Sunday I went to the River Garden Villa's to a friends house to eat dinner. She is American and she cooked yummy western dishes. I was super happy about that. Monday I spent the day worried about my Visa because i need to get it extended and I need my passport back before i go to XinJiang on the 28th. Didn't get that worked out on Monday but I did have dinner with a bunch of friends. It was a mormon monday night youth dinner. Don't know how I ended up there but it was fun and the food was great. We had apple pie for desert! yummy. Tuesday I was supposed to go to the police station to sort out my visa but that didn't work out. I was really homesick and started to cry. My Chinese mother came in and talked to me and made me feel a little better. After that i hardcore slept the rest of the morning away. That afternoon we went to lunch together and my Chinese mother treated me to a full body massage (cost would have been 80 american dollars) to make me feel better and to brighten my day. After that I went to Jessica's home. While there we make a short trip to the french grocery store and i bought these fantastic golden Kewis. they were so good! We also watched "War of the Worlds". It wasn't that great, plus it was filmed in a movie theater so we could see a lady's head in front of the guy filming during the whole movie. Anywho, today i got my visa all worked out thanks to my Chinese mothers connections at the police station. I also bought a coke in an old style glass bottle with all chinese characters on it. Its pretty cool so i'm going to save it and bring it home for my mother. So there is something special i snagged for you mom. I was supposed to bring it back when i was done but i gave the shop keepers son an american dollar so i think we are about even. Anywho now i'm just chill'n in the Aircon because it is soo hot and humid here today! I think i'm going to watch a movie later, not sure what-perhaps "finding neverland". This weekend is packed full of things to do. I'm going to a pool party on Friday, then the dirt market on saturday morning, and then saturday night i'm going to an all night party on the great wall. Sunday there is an art opening that I have to attend. So needless to say i have a very busy weekend coming up. Oh also i'm going to a lecture at Shou ShiDa tomorrow on the Peking Opera. I get to watch the performers put on makeup etc. It should be very interesting! i'm super excited..
Did some hardcore bargaining outside the subway today. I picked up this really cool large beaded bracelet and two pairs of long dangly earrings for 3 american dollars..Yay for bargaining. I don't know how i'm going to go back to the united states and pay full prices..its going to kill me. Needless to say I'm buying all of the gifts i'm giving for christmas and birthdays from here!
